European Highbush CRANBERRY – Shrub Tree Seeds – ATTRACTS HONEY BEES & BUTTERFLIES – Height: 8 to 15 feet – Hardy Zones 3 – 8 (0005 Seeds – 5 Seeds – Pkt. Size)

European Highbush, cranberry Viburnum opulus, Seeds Cultivation and uses It is commonly grown as an ornamental plant for its flowers and berries, growing best on moist, moderately alkaline soils, though tolerating most soil types well. Several cultivars have been selected, including ‘Roseum’ (synonym ‘Sterile’, ‘Snowball’), in which all the flowers are only of the larger sterile type, with globular flower heads. There is some confusion, as there are a few other bushes, including other members of the Viburnum genus, also referred to as “snowball bush”. The shrub is also cultivated as a component of hedgerows, cover plantings, and as part of other naturalistic plantings in its native regions. It is naturalised in North America, where it has been misleadingly re-named as “European Cranberrybush” (it is not a cranberry). The fruit is edible in small quantities, with a very acidic taste; it can be used to make jelly. It is however very mildly toxic, and may cause vomiting or diarrhea if eaten in large amounts (Plants for a Future). The dried bark is used in a tincture, known as “Cramp Bark,” to alleviate painful menstrual cramps. This herb is often used for treating feminine problems like menstrual cramps, postpartum discomfort, preventing miscarriages and internal hemorrhages and is used as a uterine sedative also. Additionally, it has a reputation for lowering diastolic blood pressure because of a reputed action on smooth muscle, and is both a smooth and skeletal muscle relaxant and antispasmodic. Hardy, Adaptable, Easy to Grow, Showy Flowers, Fall Color, Showy Edible Fruits, Attracts Birds and Butterflies, Wildlife Food/Shelter, Hedge/Shrub Border, Bonsai, Cold, Heat, Drought and Wind Tolerant The European Highbush cranberry is native to Europe, Asia and N. Africa. It is a deciduous shrub with a rounded, upright spreading and sometimes archinghabit. It typically grows to 10-15′ tall. The leaves are three lobed, maple-like, shiny dark green turning an

  • The Kousa Dogwood is resistant to the anthracnose that has begun to devastate the Cornus Florida. This Dogwood has lovely 2 – 4 inches flowers that change from white to pink, and is an extremely heavy bloomer! It attracts bees, birds, and butterflies. The birds really love to eat the red berries the tree produces after flowering. The berries of the Kousa Dogwood are the size of a raspberry which is larger and even more showy than a regular Dogwood seed. The petals (actually the bracts) are pointed on the ends rather than rounded. They are an excellent choice for planting near a foundation (house) because of their high shade tolerance and small size. You can let it grow in bushy or remove its lower limbs for a true tree shape. This tree also has showy fall colors. As if these arent already enough good reasons to grow Kousa Dogwoods, they also make an excellent bonsai specimen.
