Butterflies and Great Private Golf Course and Club, a Perfect Combo

Even the most avid golfer generally enjoys playing a beautiful course with great views. And more casual golfers may enjoy the pleasant afternoon outdoors with friends almost as much as the game.

What if you could live in a nature paradise with not only a great private golf course and club but also a gorgeous natural environment abounding in butterflies and other wildlife? That’s what I thought. There is just such a paradise in the mountains of northwest North Carolina, called Cullasaja Club.

A small community with fewer than 300 homes, it is the perfect place for golfers and nature lovers. Surrounded by forests with pleasant nature walks, the homes have a distinctive architecture with a welcoming, traditional look that blends well with the natural surroundings.

Besides watching butterflies fluttering in the clean mountain air, you can play tennis on Har-Tru paved courts or watch from the observation decks at the tennis center, walk in the woods with friends, dine at the elegant Cullasaja Club, swim in the club pool or in the lake, go boating, or participate in a wide variety of fun and interesting activities arranged for residents.

Arnold Palmer designed the 72-par course at Cullaja, making it not only beautiful but varied and challenging. There are three waterfalls, sand bunkers, granite cliffs, tree-lined fairways, holes that wrap around beautiful Lake Ravenel, and, of course, beautiful views everywhere. There are also pros available for lessons and golf clinics in the summer for youngsters.

A small, friendly, private community, Cullasaja is located in an area renowned for art, artists, and the healthfulness of its environment as well as for an unusual diversity of wildlife in the pristine lakes and forests. Visitors have, in all seriousness, referred to Cullasaja Club as a paradise on earth.
